Ayuda con el menu horizontal POR FAVOR!!!

Hola a todos, mi problema es que he seguido (creo) paso a paso el curso, y creo que mi hoja de estilo-general.css es muy parecida a la del curso, pero no me da las propiedades para el menu horizontal, se me ven los enlaces como una lista hacia abajo, con el punto al lado, y no me deja ponerle margenes, cambiar la letra ni nada.
POR FAVOR AYÚDENME!!!

hola quiero que mire el ancho de su pagina que es de 800px si le pone un menu de 990px creo que debe quedar mal: ejemplo.
